Surf Logs

Mount Main turns on
Grunty 3-5ft, offshore winds, low tide. As good as mount main gets according to local Amak1

Should have packed the log
1-2ft with light offshores. Damn, should have packed the 9ft log.

Small east coast
2ft with light offshores. A bit small, but hey, beats working. Most consistent high tide bank is the right at Sutherland. The swell was too small for the left at Grove to fire. Too small for the FRK+ so rocked the twin Fish.

TWO birthday surfs. What a day!
Second surf of the day. This time at main beach around low tide. Fun 2-3ft with offshore winds. Banks all up and down the beach.

Birthday waves!
Drove down the coast to Sutherland and scored birthday waves with the bro. 2-3ft with occasional 4ft and offshore winds still in effect. The banks out front of Grove was pumping lefts. How good!

Second surf of the day @ Mount main
Swell was fading after an epic morning. But still a really fun 2-3ft at mount main on a saturday and there wasn't even crazy crowds. Started to notice that on the small waves the FRK+ kind of looses its spark

Maunganui Magic
Epic 3-5ft lefts and rights down the coast on the high tide. Probably the best session I've ever had down around Grove St. My bro and I had the bank all to ourselves. The FRK+ came alive on the powerful waves

Anzac session
Heavy waves. Heavy crowds. Low tide + grunty 4-8ft. Fun and sometimes scary waves. Best rides were the smaller ones peeling on the inside. The banks aren't doing an awesome job of holding the larger waves.

Maori Bay
3-5ft with the rare larger set. The best waves were actually the smaller ones peeling left and right on the inside. The sand bars just after high tide aren't quite holding up shape on the overhead waves. Still, fun rides to be had.

Black Swamp Barrels
PSA: Post ex-TC Tam, there is a world-class beach break south of Mangawhai. Perfect head high barrels going left and right. Got barrelled. Got smashed. Loved it. Thanks Tam! On days when you know the usual spots are going to be packed, go for a walk up the beach and you will be rewarded.

Firewire surfboards Sweet Potato
A superb board for the heavier dudes when the waves are small. I got this board because my beloved cheap and cheerful fish came to the end of it's life. Also, after 3 days of epic chest-to-overhead-high surf, the east coast swell faded and it was time to bust out a grovler. Now we're cooking with the Sweet Potato. This is the most fun, fastest, manoeuvrable board I've ever ridden in small surf. It catches waves like my 9ft longboard and rides faster than the fish. I rode it in 1ft knee high to 4ft chest high waves and could not believe how easily it paddles into waves.
